Brief Itinerary                      

Days 1-2  LIMA – CUSCO – CITY TOUR – INCA RUINS TOUR

Arrival  and overnight in Lima.  Early morning flight to Cusco.  Afternoon tour of city  and nearby ruins, including those of Sacsayhuaman.

 

Days 3-4   CHINCHERO MARKET – MORAY – MORAS  - PIQUILLACATA – ANDAHUAYLILLAS – HUARO

We begin this portion of our tour with a  visit to the Chinchero Market and ancient agricultural site at Moray and the unique salt pans in Moras.  The following day we visit lesser know archaeological sites and small villages above the valley to experience the “real lives” of Andeans off the beaten tourist route.

 

Days 5-7  SACRED VALLEY – PISAC – OLLANTAYTAMBO - VISTADOME TRAIN RIDE – AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU

This potion of our tour focuses on The Sacred Valley of the Urubamba River and begins  with a visit to the Pisac market and then onto the ancient fortress of Ollantaytambo.   

A beautiful train ride following the Urubamab River, leads us to Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu.  A guided tour of this impressive site will leave you long on memories and short on film.

 

Days 8-9  MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO – LIMA CITY TOUR – GOLD MUSEUM

We have one last chance to return to Machu Picchu or pick up some souvenirs in Aguas Calinetes before boarding the train back to Cusco.  On our final day we return to Lima to enjoy a city tour and visit to the Gold Museum.  A farewell lunch, some last  minute shopping and then an evening transfer to the airport for the flight home.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: …/ LIMA

Upon arrival in Lima, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

Day 02: LIMA / CUZCO

Following breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred to the airport for a domestic flight to Cusco.  Here you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel.  The rest of the morning is at your leisure, however, we recommend that you use this time to relax in your hotel and let your body acclimatize to the near 10,000 feet of elevation. 

In the afternoon we will begin a tour of the city and nearby ruins.  Our city tour will include visits to the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Koricancha, a famous temple dedicated to the sun.

Our visits to nearby ruins include, Kenko, an ancient ceremonial center dedicated to the earth, Tambomachay, an important place of worship dedicated to water and the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, an impressive stone fortress built for the defense of Cusco. Dinner in your hotel.  (B,D)

 Day 03: CUZCO / MARAS / MORAY / CUZCO

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will visit the Chinchero market and then in the afternoon, continue your tour with visist to Maras and Moray.

Maras is a unique series of hundreds of age-old terraced salt mines and ponds that are still use today.

Moray, located approximately 7 km (4.3 miles) from Maras, is a preserved  archaelogical site that features a series of concentric bowl shaped terraces  that the Incas used for cultivation. The most amazing feature is the different temperature levels within the terraces, a difference of 15°C (59°F) from top to bottom. Return to hotel  (B, L)

 Day 04: CUZCO

Following breakfast at the hotel, we will spend the morning visiting the nearby archeological area of Piquillacta, the town of Andahuaylillas and the town of Huaro.  The afternoon is spent on your own visiting the market and other points of interest in Cusco.  (B, L)

Day 05: CUZCO / SACRED VALLEY

After breakfast we begin a full day tour of the  Urubamba River and Sacred Valley of the Incas.  First stop will be the small picturesque village of Pisac and its Indian market and craft fair. After a buffet lunch at one of the beautiful colonial inns in the Valley, we will visit the impressive  Ollantaytambo fortress, a site used during the former Tahuantinsuyo empire, as an agricultural, administrative, social, religious, and military complex.  Accommodation in the Sacred Valley (with guide) (B,L)

Day 06: YUCAY / MACHU PICCHU

After breakfast at the hotel, you will depart to Train Station en-route to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, you will be transferred by minivans up the  mountain to Machu Picchu, the "The Lost City of the Incas".  Recognized in 2007 as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, this ancient  mountain top city, lies within spectacular mountain ranges enriched by  the exuberant vegetation of the nearby jungle and its rugged landscape. Our appreciation and understanding of this World Heritage Site, will be enriched with the aid of a professional local guide.  Lunch in Totos restaurant. Accommodation in Aguas Calientes (without guide)

 Day 07: MACHUPICCHU / CUZCO

This morning is free for your leisure activities – perhaps some sightseeing or shopping in the market in Aguas Calientes or a return visit to Machu Picchu before taking the mid afternoon train back to Cusco.  Our busy day ends with a special show dinner in one of Cusco’s restaurant.  (B,D)

Day 08: CUZCO / LIMA / …

We begin our final day with breakfast at the hotel before transferring to the airport for your domestic flight back to Lima city.

Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel where we have reserved a room for you for five (5) hours.  After freshening up, you will enjoy a half day city tour of some of Lima’s historic landmarks.  The tour includes a visit to Lima’s historic downtown, including Paseo de la República, Plaza San Martín, the Main Plaza, the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, The Archbishop’s Palace, City Hall, the Desamparados train station, and the Moorish-style houses and balconies along Lima’s old Streets.  You will also visit the San Francisco Convent, that features one of the best exhibits of Colonial Art in Latin America.
The tour will continue with a drive through a
traditional neighborhood near the San Isidro Golf Club, the Olive Grove Park and modern Lima.  Our final stop before lunch will be the Gold Museum.

In late afternoon you will be transferred to the airport for your international flight home. (B, L)
