LEGEND OF GYPSUM BEARS   

On a cave trip many years ago, I was asked by a young student if bears hibernated in the caves during the winter months.  Concerned about  noise the kids might make while in the caves, especially if there were any bats still present, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to make up a bear story.   Shortly after I began the story, I realized their attention was rivited on my every word .

They were  believing me, I couldn’t help myself - I had to keep going.  The story that began as a means to calm fears and to keep visitors quiet in the caves, has become a legend that weaves truth and fiction into a near believable story of how Polar Bears, adapted following the Ice Ages to a warming climate and became the cute little white Gypsum Bears, found only in the White Caves of Hillsborough.  You’ll have to go on a White Caves Adventure to get the whole story and a complimentary copy of the Legend of the Gypsum Bears
